A Kuwaiti outdoor brand

Few things,
made well.

Gear for the desert season, from the team behind Outdoor Kuwait. Only what a camp needs, and every piece built to last.

The desert edits your kit for you.

Out past the last paved road, the wind finds every loose seam and the sand finds every thread. Afternoons stay warm; the nights turn cold. Gear that fails out there was never good gear. So ODK OUTDOOR starts from a short list of what a camp depends on, and nothing joins that list until it's right.

  • Few, on purpose

Our first season is two stoves. Every product has to earn its place, and most ideas never make the list.

  • Proven by hand

Nothing carries the mark until a physical sample has been checked and approved here in Kuwait.

  • Built for 29° North

Midday heat, a 3 a.m. chill and wind most of the day. Those conditions are the brief for everything we make.

The Field Stoves.

Every camp gathers around a flame, so that's where we began. Two stoves: one that lives in the car for the quick brew, and one with the output to feed the whole camp.

The first batch is small, by design. When it lands, it lands at Outdoor Kuwait first.

From Shuwaikh to the open desert.

ODK OUTDOOR is the house brand of Outdoor Kuwait. For years our Shuwaikh showroom has fitted out the country's campers and off-roaders with the best gear we could find from around the world.

Every season taught us what lasts out there and what doesn't. ODK OUTDOOR is those lessons, under our own name.

Polaris sits about 29° above the northern horizon in Kuwait. The rest of the sky turns around it.

Field notes.

What a season in the desert teaches. Read them before you go, and pass them on.

Cold

Butane hates the cold

Butane barely vaporises below about 0 °C, so a canister left on cold sand overnight will sputter at breakfast. Keep tomorrow's canister sheltered and off the ground, in the car or your bag. Never warm one over a flame.

Wind

Shield the flame

Wind steals more heat than the cold does. Cook in the lee of the car or a dune and put a windscreen around the burner, but never wrap one around the canister: trapped heat can over-pressurise it.

Air

Never cook in a closed tent

Every gas flame makes carbon monoxide, and you can't see or smell it. Cook in the open or under a fully open awning, never inside a closed tent or vehicle.

Sand

Give it solid ground

Loose sand shifts under a full pot. Cook on a table, a board or the tailgate with the burner level. Before you pack up, let it cool, brush the sand out of the burner and put it back in its case.

Craft

Qahwa at camp

Boil the water, add lightly roasted ground coffee and simmer gently for about ten minutes. Take it off the flame, stir in ground cardamom, let the grounds settle, then pour into the dallah. Keep it warm on the lowest flame.

Trace

Leave it as you found it

The wind uncovers whatever gets buried. Pack out every scrap, take empty canisters home for proper disposal, and leave the ground clear for whoever camps there next.
